A Sound Interface to Algebra
نویسنده
چکیده
Access to mathematics (and hence to most areas of science and technology) is barred to most visually disabled people. The complex, and often ambiguous, notation is diicult to retain and integrate in its spoken form. An interactive computer system, using synthetic speech, non-speech audio and new browsing strategies, aims to promote a more active reading of algebra notation.

A Pragmatic Approach to Extending Provers by Computer Algebra - with Applications to Coding Theory
The use of computer algebra is usually considered beneficial for mechanised reasoning in mathematical domains. We present a case study, in the application domain of coding theory, that supports this claim: the mechanised proofs depend on non-trivial algorithms from computer algebra and increase the reasoning power of the theorem prover. The unsoundness of computer algebra systems is a major pro...
متن کاملTiling algebra for constraint-based layout editing
The constraint-based layout model is a very powerful model to describe a wide range of graphical user interface (GUI) layouts, based on linear constraints. However, the advantages of the constraint-based layout model come at a price: layout designers have to ensure layouts are sound, i.e., they are solvable and items in the layout do not overlap each other. Keeping a layout sound is non-trivial...

متن کاملAnalytical vibroacoustic modeling of an elastic Rayleigh beam using Green's function
The purpose of this article is to provide an analytical model of the vibroacoustic for an elastic beam submerged in low subsonic flows with mean velocities. In general, vibroacoustic modeling refers to the combined effects of sound propagation and mechanical vibration of the structure. Sound radiations from submerged structures are coupled with physical phenomena because the sound pressures act...
متن کاملAn Audio Glanmce at Syntactic Structure Based on Spoken Form
An example of where and how to use non-speech sounds in an interface is described. The role of the sound is to provide an overview or glance for a blind person reading mathematics by listening. The type of sound used to provide the audio glance is the earcon. The algebra earcons were designed using prosodic cues from spoken algebra combined with pre-existing guidelines for earcon design. Three ...
